About us

The group is based at Shirenewton Recreation Hall and operates during term times, Monday to Friday from 9.30am - 12.30pm. We are registered with CIW (Care Inspectorate Wales) for sessional care of up to 26 children per session aged between two and a half and four years and are a member of Early Years Wales. The Playgroup is a non-maintained nursery, inspected jointly by ESTYN and CIW and works in partnership with the Education Achievement Service (EAS) and Monmouthshire Local Education Authority.

About

The Group offers children a fun and lively child led learning through play environment, following the New Welsh NMS Early Years Curriculum and offers both indoor and outdoor learning opportunities and an introduction to incidental Welsh language throughout each session.

The playgroup is registered with the LEA as a non-maintained setting and the Early Years Funding grant is available to eligible children living in Monmouthshire from the term following their third birthday.

We have close links with the local primary schools which enables us to help the children make a smooth transition from nursery care to school life.

Our most recent inspection reports are available via the links below. We were inspected in March 2022 jointly by ESTYN and CIW and their report will be available sometime in May 2022.

Shirenewton Playgroup has achieved the ECO Schools Green Flag Award and the Healthy Snack Gold Award. We have completed all sections of the Monmouthshire Healthy Pre-school Scheme as part of our commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and care of our environment and are participating in the Sport Wales Physical Literacy Scheme, promoting physical play activities.
